  1. hi prosessor
Sorry but I can not find a link to post what we did in class.
so taking advantage of it, i would like add somo coments about RAISING CULTURAL AWARENESESS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM
Learning a foreign language is to have somo more information about something else .because when we are in a class we share information about our culture and then other cultures in this casa we are learning more about american culture based on what we have how we are or who we are. for instance there are five defferent categories the one that is worth to mention THE SELF AS CULTURE the culture we belong to affects how we think interact communicate and transmit knowledge from one generation to other. so the phrase -cultural antena- refers to the interest we have on learnig new things so we have to be opened minded to learn new culture.

  2. Hi professor
Well, I can recover many aspects of the article, first it show us how can we incorporate cultural knowledge within the context of English language in class, for this there are categories or dimension according Michael Paige that can help us the first is the self as cultural, it refer how we interact with others, how the communication is important in a context, it is important for teachers, they should help to the students to wake up their “cultural antenna”, the other dimension is the elements of culture, it is represented for beliefs, values, customs, products they are seem to the iceberg model where there are tangible and intangible culture after that is the intercultural phenomena it is when a person is adapting to other culture or another context, it could be easy or hard for one it depend for each person, each person has a different personality also we have the particular culture, it help us to understand the effect of communication for this there are the high context culture these people try to be implicit it refer more it refer more to the Latin American , then we have the low context culture this kind of people are more straightforward and concise like an example is the Americans. Nowadays is important especially for teacher help to the students to develop their cultural observation also drive them to raising their awareness of culture.
The first impression that I had about Sara was, she was true open mind and friendly, she was smiling all time it show me that she felt relaxes and in confidence with us, she likes to travel and meet new people, in our country she likes to eat chairo, k`ala purka, her favorite holy day is Christmas and it was interesting.
I learned that is necessary especially for us the Bolivians meet more cultures or people from different countries because in our culture we are very shy, and the interaction with other people will be beneficial for us. She let us know about her relatives, studies, jobs, like, trips.

  3. Hello professor
About the article raising cultural awareness in the English language classroom it was very interesting because I could learn about the five dimensions of culture learning model according to paige, 1) the self as cultural, this dimension mentioned that all are members of a community and that teachers can help students to activate our “cultural antena” this means that we have to know the important elements of our own culture and how it shaped us. 2) the elements of culture, this dimension refers to the beliefs, values, customs, products and communication styles of a society. 3) the intercultural phenomena mentions the process of adapting to a new culture which is called “acculturation” and it has four stages according Brown. When a person goes to another country passes by this four stages, the first is excitement to live in a new country, the second is culture shock where people make comparisons between their host culture and their own culture. The third is recovery where people feel more confortable and appreciated the differences between their own culture and the new culture. The fourth stage is adaptation where people accept the new culture. 4) particular cultures this stage mentioned the high-context cultures where people prefer group harmony, share their knowledge and viewpoints, and the low-context cultures are individualistic and goal oriented also have a straight forward and concise. 5) acquiring strategies for culture learning this stage talks about of that we have to be more culturally competent having the ability to relate, to use new knowledge, to elevate the cultural practices and products from another culture and finally being curious.
And finally I would like to thank for the visit of Sara it was a nice experienced hear her speak of our culture and her own culture, I liked When She Said that the culture here in Bolivia is alive and one thing I could learn about American culture was when she mentions that she needed space when going on a minibus or bus and people were sitting near each other she said that she felt uncomfortable because she need her own space.

  4. Hi everybody
Well i see this date Sara came into the class for talking a little but first the professor taught about raising cultural awareness in the English language classroom I learned 5 dimension of the culture learning 1 self as cultural about the members of a community 2 the elements of culture it refers to the values ,beliefs, products, customs and communication 3 the intercultural phenomena refers the process to acculturation 4 particular culture refers to the high- context and low -context 5 acquiring strategies for culture learning refers about culturally and to using the new knowledge. These 5 dimensions can help to understand raising cultural awareness
Now according to Sara we know lots of things about her in how to think about the culture in south America specially to Bolivian culture and a little experience of her life , specially we asked about her American culture
