  1. Hi. Professor.
Well about the topic we explained, I´ve learned many things such as: the worth a war can have in order to represent a society, if it is worth it or not. Many things were involved during this was. As we explained in a map that showed major land campaigns, and naval campaigns for Union and Confederate troop movements, as well as roads, railroads, battle outcomes and their impacts on the war, for instance the main personalities who were protagonists during this war, such as: Abraham Lincoln who in 1860 opposed the expansión of slavery into United States´ territories. Since the American Civil War was the result of decades of sectional tensions between the North and South states in America, because of the slavery and the states’ rights. It is when over the next several months after Lincoln´s election, eleven southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. During the first two years of the war, Southern troops won numerous victories but saw their fortunes turn after losses at two main regions: Gettysburg and Vicksburg in 1863. From then on, Northern forces worked to conquer the states of the South, forcing them to surrender in April 1865. During the war, Union forces suffered approximately 360,000 killed (140,000 in battle) and 282,000 wounded. Confederates armies lost approximately 258,000 killed (94,000 in battle) and an unknown number of wounded. As a result of this fact, the total killed in the war exceeds the total deaths from all other US wars combined. And from then on black people began to defend their rights.
Talking about interesting or shocking things, well I believe for example the fact of the Abolishment of slavery, the extension of legal protection regardless of race, and the most important of all the Abolishment of all racial restrictions on voting.
Thank you professor, see you in class!

  2. Hello professor
My topic was American “CIVIL WAR” sorry, but I was very nervous at the moment of my presentation and Icould not said the most important part of my topic.
The war started on April 12, 1861 and finished on May 10, 1865 (4 years, 3 weeks and 6 days) and the last shot fired June 22, 1865.

In November 6, 1860 - Abraham Lincoln, is elected president, the first Republican, receiving 180 of 303 possible electoral votes and 40 percent of the popular vote and is the representative of unites states he does not want the expansión of slavery in the west.

The Confederate States of America is formed with Jefferson Davis, who is the reprtesentative of confedérate states
Economically, the war was a boon for the North and a disaster for the South. The North began the war with several advantages: more men, more money, more industrial power, and an extensive railroad system.
The most interesting or shocking for me is that the CIVIL WAR answered many of the fundamental questions of the American such as free or slave, one or many, united or divided. But it did so at a tremendous cost, because showed how terrible its cost in human life would be, beginning with the two bloody days of the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee and continuing through a series of battles in Virginia and America’s bloodiest single day, the Battle of Antietam in Maryland.

Finally African Americans served many roles in the Civil War. In the Union army, over 179,000 Also, figures like Frederick Douglass were active abolitionists before and during the Civil War. On the night of April 14, John Wilkes Booth, a staunchly pro-slavery Confederate sympathizer, slipped into the President’s Box at Ford’s Theater in Washington and fired a single bullet into the back of Abraham Lincoln’s head. Lincoln died the next morning, the first American president to be assassinated.
I learnt whit this historical moment that the role of culture in this case I refer the music played the aspect most important because the music could represent sentimental and inspirational moment in the war.

  4. Hello Professor

There were many importants and historical events that happened in The twenty first century. One of them was the first and second election of George Bush. In the first election in 2000 was the first in112 years in which a president lost the popular vote. In his first term there were
tragic events that marked his firs term. I think we all knows about the terrorist attacks that happened on september 11th, 2001 in The United States , the terrorist attacks into The World Trade Center, The Pentagon and in Pittsburg resulted many innocent civilian people and rescue workers that died in that tragic day, this terrible event was compared with the war of 1812 becaause in that war died almost the same number of people but in two hours. However, surprisingly in the second election of George Bush won the first outright majoryty in the popular vote for president in sixteen years. That was really interesting because after the terrorist attacks
he promised to end the insurgency in Irak and that would be a long campaign against terrorist groups and that promise made people give him their support in the general election, that was an important factor that made him win the general election with a outright majority.

Finally, the inmediate consequence of the september 11th attacks was that some Americans directed their anger at Arab Americans and Muslims that was shocking for me because some people acted like terrorist when they killed many innocent people

  6. SLAVERY
    ERICKA RUTH QUISPE VILLALOBOS
    CORINA SUSANA QUISPE KANTUTA
    LOURDES JANETH ALANOCA C.
Starting in 1600s, many Africans were enslaved and brought to North America. They were sold to colonists and forced to work without pay. We could learn that it does not matter Slavery had an extremely malignant impact on the development of African-American culture. However, this impact was caused several factors, not solely their treatment. The destruction of their previous culture and removal from their heritage, their inability to communicate as slaves, and the impact of slavery after emancipation all negatively affected African-American culture. Through slavery, Africans completely lost their heritage and previous culture. They were separated from their families, and cultural items such as their drums with which they used to communicate were also taken away. Their original names were ignored, and their master or the person who gave them their new name usually just named them on a whim without any consideration to what their name had been previously or what name they wished to have. As slaves, they were not allowed to perform African rituals or practice their religion. Everything that had once been a part of their culture was no longer a part of their life.
The most shocking for us was the punishments that slaves received. Punishments were often meted out in response to disobedience or perceived infractions, but sometimes abuse was performed to re-assert the dominance of the master over the slave. They were punished with knives, guns, field tools and nearby objects. The whip was the most common instrument used against a slave. A slave would be punished for: resisting slavery, not working hard enough, talking too much or using their native language (which was prohibited), stealing from his master, murdering a white man and trying to run away. Some punishments included: being put in shackles, being put in various contraptions, being chained to the ground, being whipped, being forced to walk a treadmill, being hung and left die. The most serious crime committed, the more severe was the punishment. Plantation owners often made the other slaves watch the punishment to prevent them from slacking at work or trying to run away. The most horrendous punishment that we could read was that pregnant women received the most horrible lashings; slave masters came up with unique ways to lash them so that they could beat the mother without harming the baby. Slave masters would dig a hole enough for the woman´s stomach to lie in and proceed with the lashings.
Some dimensions that we could find were:
    PERSPECTIVES OF SLAVERY
PRODUCTS : Strings, cotton, enginery, food-produced products, Black people as products or as tributes
PRACTICES: Sell and buy of slaves, beat and famish of slaves - inhuman trait-, death of people, kidnaping as way of acquiring slaves, transportation of slaves, trait of slaves as trade, use of slaves as tribute, respect of slaves rights, progress of economy, increasing of culture, abolition of slavery…
COMMUNITIES: Africans, Americans- African-Americans-native people, other countries and societies as Egypt, Ghana, Sudan, Senegal, Bambara, Tabora, etc
PERSONS: Olaudah Equiano, Thomas Clarkson, William Cowper, Elizabeth Heyrick, Black people, Native people from USA-Brazil-Egypt- etc.
    PERSPECTIVES: Madness, injustice,

World War I began on July 28 1914when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.

The conflict between two countries spread rapidly: soon, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and France were all drawn into the war, because they were involved in treaties that obligated them to defend certain other nations. Western and eastern fronts quickly opened along the borders of Germany and Austria-Hungary.

The main causes of World War I, were the conflicts and hostility between the great European powers of the four decades leading up to the war. Militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism played major roles in the conflict, besides The crisis came after a long and difficult series of diplomatic clashes between the Great Powers (Italy, France, Germany, Britain, Austria-Hungary and Russia) over European and colonial issues in the decade before 1914 that had left tensions high. The more immediate cause for the war was tensions over territory in the Balkans. Austria-Hungary competed with Serbia and Russia for territory and influence in the region and they pulled the rest of the Great Powers into the conflict through their various alliances and treaties.

The war ended in the late fall of 1918 after the member countries of the Central powers signed armistice agreements one by one. As a result of these agreements Austria Hungary war broken up into several smaller countries. Germany under the treaty of Versailles, was severely punished with hefty economic reparations, territorial losses, and strict limits on its right to develop militarily.

I learned about it, that the different citizens of each country had thought very egoistic that they did not take the most important the human life, into of this war had many dead, although this war was for the treaties that had among those countries maybe, the people struggled for their territory that pertain them, besides in this war had involved aspects of culture as behavior, ideas, ideologies and the most important the communication and language that they used. This can be formal or informal language.

  8. Hi professor
I am Moisès, The topic that we showed you was the great depression, and many things let us understand in this topic. How USA had to overcome the crisis started in 1929. In this topic I learned that the biggest and powerful country also could be the country with the major crisis in its history like USA, the government did not find a solution in the political and social crisis, the president Herbert Hoover did not realignment to different social class, industries, banks, like Franklin D Roosevelt did. It show us that in our country or another country it could happen, the unemployment was the hit in the USA, the people were living in extremely poverty.
It is possible in our country and we have to find to face the crisis may be make a big meeting where all of citizen of our country participate for instance organized labor , miners, working class public officer , so is necessary the communication between us and find solution for different problems that we could have in the future . We are awareness that in our context the economy could change.
There were interesting things may be we did not show you in the presentation one of them was, for instance the production of the USA was high but the consume was low, then to protect the production the government established a new taxes for the importation from another countries, however, the other countries in vengeance, the other countries made the same with USA, then the economic crisis fell more in the next years.

  9. FIRST AMERICAN

We can deduce through the historical moment that the Americans were not wild, violent, they did not have iron weapons such as guns and they did not create the gunpowder, due to they were dedicated to the hunting, fishing and agriculture. The idea of wild Americans come from movies without true historical supports. This historical moment does not explain completely the American’s culture because culture is not only products, communities, practices and persons whether not culture is perspectives too. Those perspectives we cannot find easily due to they are hidden. The most texts talks about products, communities, practices and persons and there are few texts that only talk about perspectives because is so difficult. Therefore is difficult talk about this to us.
We learned that the American’s culture is not lost only suffered different changes through the time and there are some misconceptions about American’s culture thus is so important to know American’s history to make clear our conception about them. Also learning a language includes learning about culture.
There is something so interesting we have found the sign of the relative unimportance of the nuclear family as opposed to larger kinship ties is that many Indian societies provided for relatively easy access to divorce in the culture Iroquoian speakers of the Eastern Woodlands.
Finally, we can assume that this is one reason that can explain the actual way of life the most Americans nowadays and we might to guess the aspect of divorce born from the Iroquoian.

  10. Vietman War was the military struggle fought that took place from 1957-1975. It involves north and south vietman where U.S. also was part of it. About U.S. presidents: John F. He began the america involvement in the vietnam war. Ho Chi Minh north Vietnam president, he led the vietman war until he passed away. The war itself war the most devastating ever. american troops killed many peolple including thier peers, using helicopter, trowing napalm from the air destroy the land, they had no option, they could not produced anything.
What I learnd is that making a bad decision may cause problems where people are part of it.

I did a presentation about Great Depression and I would like to share my opinion about it. First, it was a little bit difficult to find a good explanation of this topic because I didn't have any reference about it so, I just read information to understand why wall street crash. I realized that this part of the history was not part of my knowledge so I learned a lot. The first thing that called my attention was the poverty in United States (unimaginable for me because nowadays it's a powerful country). Second, how people reacted facing a chaotic economic situation and how they excelled themselves. Finally, I think it is important to reflect about the power of governments who can destroy nations just with wrong decisions.

My topic was about the Word War I, it started on June 28th in 1914 in central European. The causes for war< - Since the early nineteenth century Europe was a real arms race, the more pronounced in Germany and Britain than focusing in navy reinforcements. - The European countries as Germany, Britain, France ,Russia they wanted had the powers, frecuenty used large amounts of resources to achieve control of all regions in Africa and Asia in order to control their raw materials. - Nations and ethnic groups who considered of one nation because they share language, tradition, beliefs and other but they were part of multi-ethnic empires. For example, Italians, Slavs and Magyars formed part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.- Economic aspect the imperialism of the European powers generated an economic struggle to master because they domained of territories in Africa and Asia in which to found new colonies. Also European imperialism and the process of colonization of Africa : started of the Second Industrial Revolution in 1850 a huge economic development in Europe that began a parallel dual process started. In other words thank to conquets and colonzations. The many European countries development their power economy and developed many technology. - Other important cause was that Germany completes the unification of Germany into a single nation when in the Franco – Prussian war Germany defeat to France for it cause France had payed $1 billion of indemnity and gave parts of Alsace-Lorrian territories. After this war Germany wanted impose its culture to woned territories but France wanted prevented this made. Then the power economy country in European was Germany also was considered central power country. For it many European countries had rivalries between themselves.
The main cause were when Gavrilo Princip Serbian nationalist killed to Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was heir to the Austro- Hungarian throne. After that Austro-Hungary declare war on Serbia. That triggered of the alliances Germany supported the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Russia, on the other hand France and Britain supported Serbia. The war started on June 28th in 1914 in central European. This war was by underwater and air war. In it historical moment was used many army technology. The participation of United States that entered the conflict in the last year of the war after being sure that the war would affect them if they did not act immediately. Besides its army was not prepared militarily to face the powerful German army. Its help was more economy financial assistance also helped with some 2 million soldiers. In that UU.EE did treaty with Britain country.
For other hand the war was during 4 year. In this war Germany had more possibilities to won the war but its Schlieffen plan failure, because the place of attacks were changed. For it issues Germany and their alliances lost the war. The war finished in Paris on January 18th in 1918 with The Versailles Peace Treaty in that Germany had gotten of land and natural resources, mandates steep reductions of army and navy; and had left indemnity of $32 billion.

  13. continue the word war comment
Also this treaty determined the important association in the word the League of Nations (or League of Nations). It was think during conversations Versailles, in that UU. EE. President Wilsone Wood proposals in order to ensure peace and international order. About 27 original members were allied states and 13 neutral.
Consequences of war was very important because Russian and German empires lost large territorial. The first that lost was Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland territorries. - Establish boundaries of territory, the new distribution and reconfiguration of the European map, was inspired by the principle of self-determination of peoples, according their same culture that meant returned own culture. - Disappearance of the monarchy of ustro-hungara and became the republics as Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. - The South Slavs, Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, were grouped into the new Kingdom of Yugoslavia. With desappeared impire many countries were replaced by republics. -The women were incorporated into the productive system during the conflict that broke the monopoly that men were better than women. - About twelve million people dead in war. - European economies were severely affected because countries that participanted on war the lost economy was very terrible. For it Japan and EE.UU. became power economy in word.
When I search many information about this historical moment I undertand more about impose cultural specially in European. It historical moment was very important historical phenomena, because before war the power countries than consquest and colonize territories impose their culture it meant that colonized people had left their original language, beliefs, costum and others and they had subdued to new imposed culture. But after world was stablished the modification on European map, it meant that many countries went back to original own culture but other had changed and adapted to other culture according the boundaries territory.
The dimensions that we could find on Word war I were:
PRODUCTS: imposition of culture, adaptation of new culture, the go back original culture,. Army technology, League of Nations, the desappear monarquies, many empires disappeared, established republic countries in Eupean. PRACTICES: use arms, deploy poison gas, women had important rol because they help to injured people and assemble army for war, agreement between countries COMMUNITIES: the principels communities was Germany, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Russia, France, Britain, Italy Serbia, Ottoman Empire, UU.EE. PERSONS: Woodrow Wilson who was President of the United States, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria who was Austrian imperial heir of Corona Austria, Gavrilo Princip Serbian nationalist who killed to Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Erich Von Falkenhaym German general who stood up to the Anglo-French offensive, Erich Ludendorff: derrotaton the Russian army in battles. PERSPECTIVES: injustice, attitude of countries than participated on war.
